Damiana leaf, a shrub native to the sub-tropical climates in the Americas, has been historically used as a tea, in tinctures, incense. Many native peoples of the Americas have long used Damiana, including the Aztecs. In some Native peoples’ traditions, it was even used in courtship. If a woman liked someone, she would prepare the person a blend of this tea. Damiana is popularly mixed with blackberry leaf when made into tea. It is bitter-tasting, so adding sweet herbs, lemon, or a sweetener may enhance its taste.
The recommended dosage for damiana leaf tea is 2-4 grams (0.4-0.8 tsp) in one cup of boiling water, and up to 12 grams (2.4 tsp) of it per day. The recommended serving for a tincture is 1-2 mL in 6-8 oz of water, up to 3 times a day. It blends well with mugwort and lavender. Disclaimer:
